Thanks to Leyla Melis Aslan for including me in this project.
Women’s participation in sports and athletics has a long history marked by significant accomplishments and achievements, always defying the expectations. Only 50 years ago, women were not even allowed to enter races. It was believed that running would damage their health and femininity. Throughout the years, pioneers like Katherine Switzer, who entered Boston Marathon by hiding her gender or former tennis star Billie Jean King, who led a movement for female players for pay equality in tournaments, have been fighting for gender equality.
This magazine is dedicated to all the strong women who have been forced to sit on the sidelines. With Sideline, we aim to create a platform that celebrates women in every field of sports and seeks to address the challenge of gender inequality.
This project is the result of a Design for People Master thesis by Leyla Melis Aslan.
